Spend Now, Save Later..

I have been playing around with all kinds of baby outfits; hooded sweatshirts, leggings, rompers, t-shirts, and I love the challenge and the end result. My LEAST favorite part is always those finishing touches. I made my little guy a romper out of a recycled men’s t-shirt…

The sewing of the romper was rather easy. I picked up a few printed men’s tee’s from Army & Navy (next time I will just hit up my local thrift shop) and used a free pattern online and altered it to my liking. As I came to the end of this tiny project, I discovered I would need to insert snaps or buttons to finish it off so my little guy wasn’t wearing a dress. I chose snaps because buttons seemed more difficult but in hindsight it may have been the way to go.

I picked up some snaps and a Snap Fastener Kit. The simple looking device was only $8.99 and in my hopes to save a few bucks I chose this over the $30.00 Snap & Eyelet Pliers

BIG MISTAKE.

I broke three snaps in the process, drew blood twice, and almost lost my sanity as I scrambled to finish this before my three month old awoke from his slumber. In the end it did work, but not without a lot of resentment to this tiny piece of plastic. Rule of thumb, don’t go cheap! Now instead of just spending the $30.00 on the better product, I have spent $40.00 because being cheap bit me in the butt. I will keep this minuscule piece of blue garbage of a reminder for next time I try to save a dime!
